The first competitive game of the new season didn’t get off to the greatest of starts…
As we knew they would Lutterworth put us under pressure with their trademark direct style right from the start, forcing a number of attacking throws, which, were largely dealt with.
One such Pat Lindley flicked header away fell to Mitch Langton who fed Tomas Poole to break at the hosts defence which unfortunately broke down.
The game was just six minutes old when Lutterworths pressure told but we more than played our part in the opening goal when Myles Wright made Charlie Oglesby aware that he was dealing with a ball which was making its way back to the edge of his area but… it held up allowing the striker to nip in between Myles and Chas, take the ball and in trying to rectify the situation Myles dived for the ball but took the striker down instead. He did save the resultant penalty but the rebound squirmed the wrong way as far as were concerned and despite Charlie Oglesbys best efforts the ball was bundled in at the far post, by Kade Lewis
Lutterworth Town 1-0 Trojans
Still plenty of time to go however and we rallied a little with Tomas Poole firing over from a freekick on 22 minutes, then two minutes later Charlie Oglesby saw his goal-bound header from a corner cleared off the line.
But… instead of being level at the break we gave ourselves a mountain to climb in the second half as Tendai Daire turned in the box and slotted it past Myles Wright once more.
Ht. Lutterworth Town 2-0 Staveley MW
We started the second half much more like the Staveley we all know and love with Tomas Poole at the forefront of most of the attacking play…he immediately got down the right finding an over lapping Sam kay although his cross was over hit it encouraged us to get going even more.
Tucker once again found Brandon Webster on the left hand side this time and his cross was narrowly headed over by Jon Froggatt.
On fifty three minutes tucker broke behind the home defence to cross first time low across the six yard box out to a stretching Robson Doolan at the far post who looked to some of the Staveley faithful to have steered the ball into the back of the net but instead it hit the side netting and rolled round the back.
Two minutes later Tucker was again instrumental in winning a corner down the right hand side and when Aaron Moxams glancing header hit the post you just knew it wasn’t going to be our day. And so it proved as Lutterworth held on to take the victory, and the place in the next round.
