Goole AFC v Trojans 11/09/2021

Goole AFC 1-0 Trojans

your usual scribbler wasn’t actually at this game so its over to @staveleyMWFCnorthstand for the inner details…

This one saw the debut of goalkeeper Luke Chadwick a 17 year old from Doncaster academy and by all accounts he wasn’t far off taking the man of the match award! And made two save inside the first 10 minutes with the home side looking to take advantage of a strong wind that was blowing in their favour at the beginning of the match.

Not long after though Rob Worrall fire in a shot which almost sneaked in but for a good save from the Vikings stopper Mateusz Zaniewski.

The wind changed direction and made it difficult for both sides as chances became few and far between midway through the first half but then went back against us with Chadwick once again making a good save to allow Charlie Oglesby to clear the ball off our line.

As the half drew to a close Tomas Poole went close with a free kick just over the bar and a Will Eades header deflected off the hand of a defender inside the box but that more than good shout for a penalty was of course waved away! And we went into the break at 0-0.

A strong start to the second half saw chances fall to Rieves Boocock, Marley Grant and Tomas Pool e… on 53 minutes Charlie Bell found Marley Grant who put the ball into the back of the net! Only to be denied by a marginal offside flag.

The game went a bit end to end just past the hour with Marley Grant again going close but we also had Chadwick to thank once again when one on one with the Vikings forward he covered a potential shot to his right with his hands saving the eventual shot to his left with his legs to keep the scores level.

With 20 minutes left Myron Gibbons came of the bench and immediately set up Tomas Poole who saw his powerful shot save at full length by Zaniewski, and fellow sub Matty Parkin also had a decent effort on goal.

No one could find that all important finishing touch however until the dying moments of the game and unfortunate for us it was the hosts main man Sam Cable who struck the only goal of the game with just four minutes left to play..
