Maltby Main 1-0 Staveley MW
A much improved performance saw us nearly take the lead of this reasonably entertaining game inside the first two minutes when a Brandon Webster cross from the left after some great work from Declan Howe bustling his way through a number of challenges was powered towards goal by Sam Kay, who unfortunately saw his goal bound header deflected off our own Myron Gibbons and out to safety.
Down at the other end a long throw allowed Alex Hardwick a chance to strike from close range but that was charged down by Charlie Oglesby, moments later another long throw from the other side this time was met by Joseph Austin but Rio Alberry produced a smart save down at his near post to deny him.
Midway through the half Mitch Langtons freekick was flicked on by Will Eades and headed towards goal by Decaln Howe the ball however the trajectory of the ball favoured home ‘keeper Hugo Warhusrt and Howe wasn’t able to get the required power to beat him as he came out to gather.
The half ended with more chances for us with Mitchell Langton and Brandon Webster going close but it remained 0-0 at the break.
Like the first half we went close straight from the off but this time it was Will Eades who saw his header from a corner glance wide.
Just before the hour Thomas Whiting did well for Maltby running almost the full length of our half to win a corner from which former Trojan Morgan James as the initial cross was cleared fired it back into the crowded box, and into the top corner of goal for the lead .
Maltby Main 1-0 Trojans
Long range efforts from Rieves Boocock which went over and Charlie Oglesby which was saved down low by Hugo Warhurst.. And an Oglesby header cleared of the line were the best of our chances as we sort to get the equaliser we deserved but unfortunately it didn’t arrive.
