The season got off to a decent start with us creating more than one good opportunity early on… notably Tomas Poole holding of the challenge of young Eccleshill left back Tyler Marsh to cross for Micheal Burke who couldn’t quite get his head to it, and Matty Parkin who did steer a header towards goal following a Mark Dudley freekick crossed in from the left but saw it hit the crossbar and over. Arguably against the run of play however it was the hosts who took the lead on eighteen minutes when the ball landed, after a bit of a defensive mix up at the feet of Nathan Woodward who with his back to goal still had a lot to do but managed to turn and slot the ball under an advancing Myles Wright in the Staveley goal.
The lads rallied however creating more chances but found Eccleshill goalkeeper Brad Emmerson in scintillating form to deny Tomas Poole a simple tap in just after the half hour, coming from out of nowhere to block the effort.
He could do nothing to prevent the equaliser though, just before half time which came from an interception and then inch perfect pass into Tomas Poole from Morgan James, allowing Poole to race clear and unselfishly pass square for Michael Burke to tap home.
There were fewer chances in the second half but again Brad Emmerson ensured the points were shared with another stunning save, this time from Adam Lunds seventieth minute header.
Final Score: Eccleshill United 1 – 1 Staveley Miners Welfare
