Staveley Miners Welfare FC 2 - 1 Hall road RangerR

There are better journeys to have to make on a Tueday night but such is life at this level of football it is also the price of success for this match was brought forward following is original Saturday date being used for the Fa Vase 1st Round instead which both club will be hoping to progress further in… meaning further disruption to the fixture list.

Ash Rawson and Josh Barker returned to the starting eleven in deepest darkest Hull where the Trojans won the toss and elected to play against the wind sweeping across the very narrow Haworth Park pitch.

The decision to play against the wind was initially at least a good one as Callum Mawbey retaining his place at left back following the impressive “debut” display in that unfamiliar role the week before, sent an early “sighter” looking for Tyla Bell to put some pressure on young Joel Piercy in goal for the home side as he came out to collect a headed back pass that held up in the conditions.

Five minutes gone and a series of throws on the left hand side ensured the ball eventually found its way to Josh Barker with his back to goal inside the area who took a touch to control the ball before turning to shoot over.

The Trojan attacks continued, with a Tom Ellis header and Adam Baskerville chest pass releasing Josh Barker to flash a low cross into the box looking for Tyla Bell but cleared for a corner which an unbalanced Ash Rawson fired over. Then a Tyla Bell making himself a nuisance cross for Callum Mawbey to shot wide.

The home side had a very distinct style of direct play and they used their surroundings to full effect to get into the game and twelve minutes in Josh Batty fired a shot across the Staveley bows when he took control of a long ball forward and found space when the Trojans defence lost the flight of it in the floodlights which were dazzlingly low to the ground.

The aerial bombardment gathered apace and after a corner that the assistant had flagged for a Staveley goalkick had been cleared, Danny Chambers should’ve put Hall Road in front but he headed Louis Bruce’ long throw from into the box, over, from point blank range, but apart from that glorious chance they hadn’t really troubled the Trojans too much and it was they who asked more questions as the half continued…and their closest effort so far came about following a handling error from Joel Piercy who fumbled Callum Mawbeys over hit through ball behind for a corner, which went all the way over to the far side, but tom ellis and Liam Nelthorpe charged don an attemted clearance from Chris Spinks allowing the latter to pass across the box where Adam Baskerville tapped it goalwards only to see Piercy rectify his earlier mistake by falling backwards over the line but stopping the ball  as it was also about to go over allowing a team mate to clear.

And it was cleared off the line once again five minutes before half time when Tyla Bell flicked Robson Doolans corner goalwards and not long after Adam Baskerville fired wide with an opportunist strike but such is the case with football not taking the many chances proved costly for the Trojans as ten seconds before the half time whistle Chris Spinks rose inside the six yard box and headed the home side in front from a corner.

The deficit lasted all of three minutes as a determined Tyla Bell over in the far corner of the pitch turned, wriggled his way clear of two markers and pass to Adam Baskerville on the edge of the area who without breaking his late run swept the ball low beyond the reach of Joel Piercy into the far corner

Hall Rroad Rangers 1 – 1 Staveley MW

Afte finally breaching the home defence the Trjans would go onto to have several more chances cleared off the line and were one again made to pay, fifteen minutes from time when anther long ball from the back landed on the left wing with Josh Batty who… laid it back for Fraser Hansen to pass into the box to Chris Spinks who with his back to goal controlled it allowing James Piercy to run onto it and poke it across Lewis Naylor into the bottom corner.
