Trojans v Athersley Recreation

Back to league matters once ore this week and for the visit of Athersley Recreation the Tojans showed a couple of changes to the side that went out of the fa vase on Tuesday with Jahmal Riley coming in for Adam Baskerville and Liam Greenfield in for Matty Parkin.

There’s been some what is communally described as “good stuff” played at Inkersall road this season this one #spoileralert however won’t go down as an all time classic.

There were twelve minutes on the clock when the first shot on target of sorts arrived via a freekick from visiting keeper Daniel Morton which was flicked on by Chris Wood for Jack Briscoe to run onto and strike into the arms of Myles Wright who had positioned himself well at is near post to make comfortable save.

Staveley held the lions share of the possession and started to get some joy down their right hand side and sure enough after a few Matty Davies runs were thwarted at the vital moment it was down that same side that Tyla Bell got goalside of Dale Brettoner who held him back as he attempted to run onto a through ball and was awarded a freekick from which Liam Greenfield had the Trojans first attempt on goal..forcing Daniel Morton into a fine save, acrobatically tipping the goalbound effort over the bar for a corner which came to nothing.

Morton had to be at his acrobatic best once more just after the half hour tipping over a Paul Scholes- esque finish from Matty Davies who met Athersley captain Ryan Whites clearance from a corner on the volley, smashing it goalwards from the edge of the area.

Just before halftime Davies would get the better of Morton however… finishing of a flowing move again down that right hand side. Brad Jones moved forward from the right back position to find Tyla Bell on the edge of the area whose  first time pass inside the fullback and central defender found an unmarked Davies who ran onto it and clipped it over the onrushing Morton into the bottom corner.

The second half started brightly for the Trojans with Liam Greenfield receiving a crossfield pass from Sam Finalw before coming in from the right wing to shoot forcing Daniel Morton into another save which he parried to Jahmal Riley who  ,was unable to head it over Morton who stopped it once more – it wouldn’t have counted in any case as Riley was marginally offside but neither he or Morton knew that at the time. Then Jahmal Riley turned provider breaking into the box to provide Andrew Fox an excellent opportunity to double the lead from just inside the area but he fired wide. and that was about as good as it got in an attacking sense for the Trojans

the visitors is has to be said were not doing that much either – remember it wasn’t a classic but while ever its 1-0 they were still in the game and kept on piing on the pressure and sure enough with two minutes remaining they got their breakthrough when Kieran Scargill pulled them level from the penalty spot given for a pull back as an attacker went for a crossed ball. #harsh

Strangely it almost took that equaliser for the Trojans to spark into life once more and Tyla Bells snap shot in crowded box was again brilliantly saved by Daniel Morton who must’ve seen it late but there wasn’t really enough time left to mount a sustained quest for that allusive winner and the points were once again shared.
