Trojans v Barton Town

The first game of the new season got off to a frenetic start with both sides going for it in the searing August heat at Inkersall Road.

The Trojans took the lead in the twenty seventh minute when Adam Baskerville beat young Barton keeper Nathan Popple to a long pass down the right hand side from Connor Williamson which bounced niceley and enabled “basky” to lob it over him but had their own goalkeeper Myles Wright to thank just before half time for  getting down well to take the sting out of a goal bound shot from Danny Chambers allowing Jordan Claxton to mop up. They held that lead until midway through the second half and had a golden opportunity to increase it when Popple brought down Tyla Bell on the edge of the box. Popple redeemed himself though by saving Adam Baskervilles well struck spot kick and that proved costly as Barton equalised through an eighty third minute strike form Jamie Goddard who managed to get a foot on a teasing cross from the left.
