Yorkshire Amateur v Trojans

for the first away trip of the season we were forced  into making jut one change with Matty Parkin coming in for Liam Greenfield who was precautionary rested following a slight hamstring teak in the previous Fa up win against Boston Town.

The fans travelled in decent numbers too in there newish Trojans travel bus and following a bit of a trek through Leeds city centre must’ve wondered if they’d turned up at the right ground because the Staveley side they saw begin the match looked nothing like the one they’d seen last Saturday….

…the opening was a bit back to front with the ball seeing very little of the grass but the newly promoted home side, who will surprise a few this season began to settle and only a poor touch from T’nique Fishley as he looked to square the ball across goal to Ashley Flynn spooned the ball into the grateful arms of Myles Wright. the “ammers” were moving forward at will throwing in some nice skills that would not have looked out of place on the beaches of Brazil but it was Staveley who thought they’d taken the lead when Sam Finlaws cross met the head of Charlie Oglesby in an advance position and his header bounced awkwardly in front and over goal keeper Suwara Bojang who scrambled back to clear – in the opinion of the referee before it crossed the line…the regular behind the goal Trojans obviously did what they could to get it given but without goal line technology we’ll never know for sure…

In the tenth minute the home side took a preventable lead when a free kick given for a foul on the byline whilst waiting for the ball to trickle out for a goal kick was intercepted, was crossed into the box for, Frank Zalo, up from the back to powerfully head home.

Yorkshire Amateur 1 -0 Trojans

the home side deservedly held their lead andonly poor finishing after excellent build up play prevented them being more than just a solitary goal to the good but footballs a strange game at times and even though they were dominating, and first to the second balls there were chances to have found an equaliser…. after being found by Robson Doolan, Matty Davies first time square ball  from the right hand side across the box was cut out before it reached the cluster of Staveley attackers rushing in to meet it, and the two combined again just before the break with Davies cutting across the ball with his right foot to send it spinning just over the bar…the best chance however went Tyla Bell’s way but he couldn’t get above Matty Davies cross from the right to head the ball down and surely in and instead could only manage to head it towards the top of the net skimming the crossbar on its way over…

The start of the second half showed no change int he pattern of the game so Brett and his his team threw on Jahmal Riley and Joe Pugh to try and add a bit more of a physical presence up top but Myles Wright was the busier keeper and when he pulled off an excellent save from point blank range the home sides Brice Tiani reacted quickest to the rebound and stuck in the back of the net.
